In the masterfully illustrated second installment of The Blob Trilogy, we once again meet the sticky bully, A. Blob; this time, on a school bus. Written by Lori Kefalos, author of several animated shorts, including “Who’s that Knocking,” “Chug,” and “Croc, Pots and Wildebeests,” which was nominated for Best Independent Short Short, Ages 5-8, at the 2009 Kid’s First Film Festival and for best short at The Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival, A. Blob on a Bus continues the story of This is A. Blob, which first introduced us to the purple pest.

Although A. Blob had begun to rethink its bullying ways in book 1, it looks like it hasn’t quite learned its lesson! As A. Blob pokes, prods, and pesters, it seems like the children will never be able to ride the bus in peace; that is, until one brave girl decides to take a stand.
Suitable for children ages 4-8, this picture book encourages readers to take action against bullying and shows how one act of bravery can change everything--maybe even a bully.

Review by children's librarian, mom, and writer of the blog, Mom Read It.

The first book the The Blob Series, This is A. Blob, took a look at the other side of bullying, introducing us to the big, oozing bully tormenting kids at the school playground, and hints that bullies can be sad and lonely people who have trouble connecting with others. In A. Blob on a Bus, we’ve got another common bully setting – the school bus – and the story of what happens when one person says, “Enough”. With A. Blob’s ooze slithering away, we see that possibly, that ooze is a wall built up to keep others out. The third book promises to reveal all!

Review and author interview by school librarian and writer of the blog, Library Lady's Kid Lit.

Thank you L. A. Kefalos for joining us today. It is always fun to get to know the author behind a book.

When did you first know you wanted to be an author?
I don’t think I ever thought, “ I want to be an author.”  It all happened sort of gradually.   I always liked the idea of storytelling, though....I started telling my stories, then writing them down, and when I ran out of stories, I just started making things up....
