Marketing and Social Media Intern for Feb.-May; 2 for summer internships

A small start-up in the Akron-Cleveland area is looking for a qualified intern to help market a newly published children’s book. We're seeking a smart intern who can participate in various stages of traditional and online marketing campaigns for a children’s picture book for early readers that addresses the topic of bullying from a unique perspective.
We're looking for a student in the Akron-Cleveland area who is majoring in Marketing, Communications, or English. This person should be smart, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, an appreciation of an iterative drafting process, and significant knowledge of Web and social media as marketing platforms. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint experience is a bonus, and will be considered when choosing the best applicant for this position.
This intern must be a self-starter, should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, and will finish the internship with a broad experience in various aspects of marketing. Office is located in Akron’s Merriman Valley.

Responsibilities
- Update and maintain social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling andreporting results
- Assist in the creation of signage, circulars, mock ups, e-mail campaigns, news releases, on line promotion, etc.
- Assist in the distribution or delivery of marketing materials
- Assist with fulfillment of book orders
- Assist with execution of small events
- Perform analysis of marketing and sales data
- Seek and analyze competitor marketing and sales materials both on and offline
- Prepare presentations
- Package and mail books
- Enter contact information into contact management systems
- Manage editorial and event calendars
- Update the organization’s website
- Create comprehensive database of targeted schools and community organizations
- Collaborate on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
- Prepare weekly reports and maintain regular contact with supervisor
Qualifications:
- Possesses excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Firm grasp of available social media tools and platforms; Hootsuite experience a plus
- Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications)
- Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications a plus
- Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and marketing
- Must be computer literate (working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Some proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop desired.
- Knowledge of website content management and graphic design a plus
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
- Ability to work well independently and with others
- Commitment to excellent service quality
